We recently supported the Thunder Bay Public Library with a grant for their Indigenous Authors Series held throughout 2024. Authors will read from their recent works providing a platform for the voices in our community that often go overlooked. The seating is limited to 120 people, so register early.
This series has garnered lots of attention including a CBC Radio interview. This year’s lineup kicked off on February 8 with Tanya Talaga doing a reading at the Brodie Resource Library’s Indigenous Knowledge Centre. Tickets for that event were sold out.
Craig Waboose, who is the First Nations, Métis and Inuit liaison with the Thunder Bay Public Library, said the author series is one step on the path to reconciliation, “It’s really personal for me to make sure that Indigenous people are being seen and properly represented in spaces that were relatively non-Indigenous.” The next event in the series will be on April 18 when Waubgeshig Rice will be featuring and reading from Moon of the Turning Leaves.
